First Visit Information & What to Expect

Welcome to DR. Sze Acupuncture & Bone-Setting Clinic. We are committed to providing you with the highest quality traditional Chinese medicine care. This guide will help you prepare for your first visit and understand what to expect during your treatment.

First Visit Process

Check-In & Paperwork

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to complete necessary forms. You can also fill out our online consent form before your visit.

Initial Consultation

Dr. Sze will conduct a comprehensive assessment including:

  • Detailed discussion of your health concerns and medical history
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnostic examination (pulse, tongue diagnosis)
  • Physical assessment of affected areas
  • Review of current medications and previous treatments

Treatment Plan Discussion

Based on the assessment, Dr. Sze will:

  • Explain your condition from a TCM perspective
  • Recommend appropriate treatment modalities (acupuncture, bone-setting, herbal medicine, etc.)
  • Discuss expected number of sessions and treatment frequency
  • Answer all your questions and address concerns

First Treatment

Your first treatment session typically begins immediately following the consultation. Treatment duration varies depending on the modality (30-60 minutes).

Post-Treatment & Scheduling

After treatment, Dr. Sze will provide home care instructions and schedule your next appointment if needed.

What to Bring

Required Items

  • Valid ID (driver\'s license, passport, or health card)
  • Insurance card (if using extended health benefits)
  • Payment method (cash, debit, or credit card accepted)

Helpful to Bring

  • List of current medications and supplements
  • Previous medical records or imaging reports (X-rays, MRI)
  • List of questions or concerns you\'d like to discuss

Before Your Treatment

🍽️ Food & Drink

  • Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before your appointment (do not come on an empty stomach)
  • Avoid heavy, greasy meals immediately before treatment
  • Stay well hydrated throughout the day
  • Avoid alcohol 24 hours before treatment

👕 Clothing

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows easy access to treatment areas
  • For acupuncture: wear shorts or loose pants that can be rolled up above the knees
  • For bone-setting/massage: athletic or yoga clothing works well
  • Avoid tight jeans, belts, or restrictive clothing

Timing

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early for your first visit
  • Allow extra time if you\'re unfamiliar with the location
  • Plan for the appointment to last 60-90 minutes (first visit)

After Your Treatment

What to Expect

Everyone responds differently to treatment. Some patients feel immediate relief, while others may notice gradual improvement over several sessions. Common responses include:

  • Feeling relaxed, calm, or slightly drowsy
  • Temporary increase in energy or improved sleep
  • Mild soreness or bruising at treatment sites (this is normal and temporary)
  • Temporary worsening of symptoms before improvement (healing response)

Post-Treatment Care

  • Rest: Take it easy for the rest of the day if possible
  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to help flush toxins
  • Avoid: Strenuous exercise, alcohol, and swimming for 24 hours
  • Protect: Keep treated areas warm and avoid cold drafts
  • Monitor: Pay attention to how you feel and note any changes
  • Follow instructions: Complete any home exercises or recommendations given by Dr. Sze
